Summer before College

Congratulations on getting into college! This coming year will be an exciting time, filled with lots of new people and new experiences. Here are a few steps you can take over the summer to make the transition as smooth as possible:

  • Don’t forget to make sure your high school sends your final transcript to the college you will be attending.
  • Do your best at work and try to save some money for college.
  • Try job shadowing at a career you might be interested in.
  • Contact your college to find out when fees for tuition, room, and board are due and how much they will be.
  • Participate in any summer orientation programs for incoming freshmen.
  • Make any necessary arrangements for any medical exams and evaluate whether to get student health insurance or whether your family's insurance coverage is sufficient.
