What's Important to You?

This checklist can help you determine what issues are most important to you for your college education, which will help you decide which kind of school — college, university, community college, or technical/career/trade school — best fits your needs.

Your Degree and Career Goals

I plan to complete a baccalaureate (bachelor’s) degree.
I’d like to go on and earn a master's or a professional degree, such as an MD.
My chosen career field requires an associate degree.
I want to start earning college credits at a school where I know I’ll be accepted. Then I’ll transfer to a four-year college or university.
I want to get the training and certification I need to start my career as soon as possible.

Full-Time or Part-Time?

I plan on enrolling in a full-time program (usually at least 12 credit hours per semester).
I plan on working full or part time and attend school part time.

Learning Environment

I prefer a smaller campus with fewer students.
I prefer a campus that is spread across many acres or city blocks.
I like smaller classes and easy access to instructors.
I enjoy learning with lots of students, in larger classes and facilities.
I want to learn practical, hands-on skills from instructors who have worked in the field.
I want to be close to home.
I want to go to a school with lots of other DC students.

Support Options

I’m pretty independent and don’t need much support from teachers or staff.
I’d feel more comfortable in a more personal, supportive environment.
I’d like lots of choices so I can design class schedules that meet my needs.
I have family or job responsibilities, so I need convenient classes and a flexible schedule.
I want to keep tuition and other costs as low as possible.
